Nazar Ki Dua Explained: Your Islamic Defense Against the Evil Eye

Nazar ki Dua is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from the evil eye. Have you ever heard of evil eyes? It is known as Nazar in Islam. And do you know it’s a real thing that can cause harm? It is believed that when someone looks at you with strong envy, or even too much praise, this can cause you Nazar. And if you wonder why Muslims around the world take this seriously, it’s because it is mentioned in the Quran and Hadith. So, in this blog post, I’ll tell you what nazar means, how it might affect you, and what Islamic teachings, especially the Nazar bad Ki Dua prayers, offer for protection. So, let’s get started.

What Is Nazar (The Evil Eye)?

Nazar is a belief that if someone looks at you with a lot of envy or even strong admiration, they can accidentally or on purpose cause you harm. This harm isn’t physical, like a cut or a bruise. Instead, it’s believed to be a spiritual kind of damage that can affect your health, money, looks, or even your good luck.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

‏الْعَيْنُ حَقٌّ‏
“The evil eye is real.”
(Source: Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2188)

This shows that the evil eye is not just a superstition but is seen as real harm in Islam.

Islamic Teachings About Nazar

In the Quran, people often pray to be kept safe from things that can hurt them, even things they can’t see. You can see one example  from Surah Al-Falaq:

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ (١) مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ (٢) وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ (٣) وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ (٤) وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ (٥)

“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
(Surah Al-Falaq, 113:1–5)

In another Hadith the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) says:

لَوْ كَانَ شَيْءٌ سَابَقَ الْقَدَرَ لَسَبَقَتْهُ الْعَيْنُ

“If anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.”
(Source: Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2188)

This means it’s a very serious problem, and that’s why Muslims are told to ask for protection from it.

Nazar Ki Dua (Duas for Protection)

Islam tells us to say special prayers and read parts of the Quran to be safe from the evil eye. These are easy but strong ways to protect ourselves.

1. Surah Al-Falaq (113)

This surah asks for protection from all kinds of bad things, including people who are jealous.

2. Surah An-Naas (114)

This chapter helps us ask for protection from the whispers and harm of the unseen.

3. Surah Al-Ikhlas (112)

Even though it’s not directly about jealousy, but Muslims say it with the two others to be completely safe.

4. Ayat-ul-Kursi (2:255)

This verse is recited a lot to keep people safe from everything bad.

5. Specific Prophetic Dua:

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used the following dua for protection:

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

“A’udhu bi kalimatillahi al-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.”
Translation: “I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
(Source: Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2708)

There’s also another prayer commonly used for kids:

أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

“U’idhuka bi kalimatillahi al-tammah min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah.”
Translation: “I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and harmful creature, and from every evil eye.”
(Source: Sahih al-Bukhari)

How to Use These Duas

Muslims should try to:

  • Recite Surah Al-Falaq, An-Naas, and Al-Ikhlas three times in the morning and evening.
  • Recite Ayat-ul-Kursi after each of the five daily prayers and before sleeping.
  • Blow these surahs over themselves or their children after reciting.
  • Muslims should say the short prayers mentioned above if they feel like harm or jealousy might affect them.

This is part of the daily Adhkar (remembrance) taught by the Prophet (ﷺ) to say every day, and it helps keep you from harm.

Sadaqah (Charity) as a Mean of Protection

In Islam, if you give Sadaqa (voluntary charity), it doesn’t  just help others but also protects you from harm, like the evil eye (nazar).

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

“صَدَقَةُ السِّرِّ تُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ”
  Ṣadaqat as-sirr tuṭfi’u ghaḍab ar-Rabb.
Translation: “Secret charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord.”
(Source: Sunan al-Kubra by Al-Bayhaqi)

In another Hadith it is stated that:

“تَصَدَّقُوا فَإِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ تَفُكُّ الْمِصْرَ”

Translation: “Give charity, for it removes affliction.”

(Source: Tabarani in Al-Mu’jam al-Kabir)

Many Islamic scholars and teachers suggest giving Sadaqah (charity) often. So, we should follow this practice to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from evil eye (Nazar).

Other Islamic Practices for Protection

Islam says we should do some things, not just pray, to protect ourselves.

1. Saying “Masha Allah”

When you like something about someone, say “Masha Allah.” This helps stop you from accidentally causing harm with your look.

2. Avoid Flaunting Blessings

It’s good to be humble and not show off your money, kids, or achievements too much. This helps keep people from being jealous.

3. Spiritual Cleansing (Ruqyah)

If you think the evil eye (nazar) has affected you, Islamic healing means reading parts of the Quran over yourself, or having someone else read them for you with good intentions.
Signs of Being Affected by Nazar

If you’re thinking you might have been affected by the evil eye, how would you know? Well, there are no clear signs of it, but many people say they feel things like:

  • Sudden illness or fatigue
  • Unexpected failure or loss
  • Constant headaches or sadness
  • When babies cry and cry, but the doctor can’t find a sickness

Sometimes, if people get sick for no clear reason, especially after someone admired or envied them, they might think it’s because of “nazar,” also known as the evil eye.

Final Words
Nazar (or the evil eye) is a real thing in Islam, and it can cause serious harm. But you don’t need to worry, Islam teaches us how to protect ourselves. We can do this by saying nazar ki dua by the Prophet (special prayers), keeping Allah in our thoughts, and behaving in a humble way.  The Nazar Ki Dua isn’t magic; it’s a way to ask Allah to keep us safe from  anything unseen that could hurt us.

If you want to keep yourself safe from Nazar and other harms, you should always recite certain Quran verses, put your full trust in Allah, and try to live a humble life. Islam tells us to always be aware of our faith and to regularly remember Allah. This acts like a strong shield for us.
